Experience

From Tenderfoot Tactics

Experience, or XP, is a reward gained from performing various activities, including combat. Gaining enough XP will cause a goblin to level up in their current breed, which rewards a skill point for that breed. XP is tracked separately per unit and per breed. The XP threshold for a level up is dependent only on the current breed's level. The XP required for each level progressively increases.

Gaining XP[edit]

XP can be gained from exploring the overworld at different points of interest. The XP reward from these activities is always given to a random party member, and does not scale with level:

  • Picking up plant trinkets while exploring: 75 XP
  • Resting at a camp: 75 XP
  • Finding a bird's nest: 250 XP
  • Reaching a new town: 400 XP

The following overworld points of interest reward XP to a random party member in addition to any combat XP gained:

  • Investigating a fae tree: 200 XP
  • Unlocking a new breed: 350 XP
  • Winning a combat encounter at a spirit: ? XP
  • Completing multi-stage combat at tower locations: ? XP

During combat encounters, XP is awarded from spirit clouds, which are dropped by fallen enemies. If any of the player's units stop on or pass through a tile containing a spirit cloud, they gain XP proportional to the defeated enemy's level. The unit will also heal by a small amount, healing to full if the XP gained from the spirit cloud causes a level up. Enemy units will not take spirit clouds, and spirit clouds can stack on tiles if more than one enemy dies on it. Fleeing or failing a combat encounter does not reset any XP gained from a spirit cloud. After winning an encounter, all surviving goblins evenly split the total XP from any remaining spirit clouds.
